Very little is collected, and none of it is sold.

What is collected

• Server logs. Like any website, requests reach a web server that records the request itself: the page asked for, the time, the browser's user-agent string and an IP address. These logs exist for security and to keep the site running, and are kept only as long as that requires.
• Aggregate audience measurement. If a privacy-respecting analytics tool is in use, it records page-level totals — which pages are read, roughly where readers arrive from — and nothing that identifies you individually.
• Email you send. If you write to the editor, we hold your message and address for as long as needed to deal with it. Nothing more is done with it.

What is not collected

• No accounts, passwords or profiles, because there is nothing to log in to.
• No payment details of any kind. Nothing is sold on this site.
• No advertising or cross-site tracking pixels, and no behavioural profiles built for advertisers.
• No data brokered, sold, rented or traded. Not now, and if that were ever to change, the change would be published here before it took effect.

Cookies

Merovale sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. If any cookie is used at all it is a strictly functional one needed to serve the page. Fonts are loaded from a third-party font service, which means your browser makes a request to that service in order to render the page; that request is handled under that provider's own terms.

Links to other sites

Entries link out to hotels and other organisations. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else's site, under their privacy policy, and Merovale has no control over and no visibility of what they collect.

How to opt out

Because there is no account and no marketing list, opting out is straightforward. Browser-level tracking protection or an ad blocker will stop any analytics request. Blocking third-party fonts in your browser will stop the font request. Not writing to the inbox means we hold no message from you at all. If you have written and would like that correspondence deleted, ask at editor@merovale.com and it will be deleted.

Children

This is an editorial site written for adults and it is not directed at children. No information is knowingly collected from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version replaces this page. Material changes will be described in plain language rather than folded silently into a longer document.
